The Pass Functional Skills exams can be taken from anywhere, as long as you have a stable internet connection. You are able to take your exam from the comfort of your own home, with exam slots available Monday-Saturday, including evening slots, all year round, and you have the ability to choose which date suits you. You can purchase the functional skills exam only option, or bundle it with our comprehensive online course and get a free resit include if you do not pass on the first attempt!

  • Select the date and time of the exam that suits you, or choose the 'book later' option.

  • On the exam date, you will be set up with one of our experienced invigilator, who will guide you through the setup of your exam.

  • We have the fasters results turnaround of any major provider. Once you have taken your exam, results will arrive in around 2 weeks.

  • If you pass, certificates are issued from the awarding body.

Functional Skills Exam FAQs

Pass functional skills provides online exams for students, which allows you to sit your exam from the comfort of your own home. As long as you have a stable internet connection and a laptop or PC, you will be able to take this exam.

All of our exams are Ofqual regulated, meaning they are approved by the government. Therefore, if your employer, apprenticeship provider, or universities requires a level 2 qualification (or equivalent to a grade 4, or C, at GCSE), then this will be accepted.

The price of your exam includes:

  • Registration fee with the exam board
  • Paper and electronic certification if you pass
  • Functional skills exam
  • Invigilation fees

There are no additional or hidden fees on top of your exam purchase.

There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

The exam is sat remotely, so you will need:

  • Laptop/Desktop Microsoft Windows or Mac.
  • A webcam and microphone. Usually, these are built into your laptop but be purchased cheaply if required.
  • Wi-Fi connection, Minimum requirements 1 Mbit Upload, 10Mbit Download. (Hotspots, Mobile or otherwise are not allowed)
  • Zoom desktop app needs to be downloaded and installed.

Our exams can be taken all year round, Monday-Saturday with multiple exam slots throughout the day, including evening slots. You can select your own exam slot or select the choose ‘date later option’.

We work with 2 exam boards: Open Awards and City & Guilds. Both are equally recognised and accepted, however we generally use Open Awards as their results turnaround is a lot quicker.

Level 1 assessments are designed to have a pass mark in the range of 40-42 marks. Level 2 assessments are designed to have a pass mark in the range of 47-49 marks.

Functional Skills assessments are graded as either a 'pass' or 'fail'. There are no proxies and no portfolio elements for these qualifications. All Entry Level examinations are paper-based. They are assessed internally and are moderated by the centre.

You'll have to make a new entry each time for Level 1 and 2. At Entry Level there are three sets of assessments per level for each subject. If a learner does not pass their assessment, they may sit the alternative test, providing there is a gap of at least 14 days.
