Successful completion of all Teacher Education Program (TEP) Requirements, including a minimum 2.5 Teacher Education Overall GPA are required to progress beyond each TEP Milestone. All Professional Education courses, including Learner Specialty Concentration/Pathway courses, must be completed with no grade lower than a “C” and no “I” (Incompletes). Degree requirements must be fulfilled to qualify for TEP completion. A minimum passing score on all required licensure examinations and completion of licensure requirements are necessary to be eligible for an Indiana Instructional Educator License.

Summary of Teacher Education Milestones

Requirements for Admission to TEP: Direct

Admission to the Teacher Education Program (TEP) is directly granted upon a student’s acceptance and enrollment at Purdue University, West Lafayette. *Teacher Education Program guidelines and requirements are determined by students catalog admission year. Subscribe via Brightspace to the Teacher Education Program Guidelines, Requirements, & Resources course for a complete listing of TEP and licensure guidelines and requirements. Any course substitutions must fulfill associated key assessments, degree requirements, and licensure requirements. Prior approval by the Office of Teacher Education and Licensure is required.

Requirements for TEP Milestone A: Methods Qualified (Semester 2-4)

  • Achieve the Teacher Education Program Overall GPA requirement 2.5/4.0 (at time of Milestone A review) with Professional Education and Learner Specialty Concentration/Pathway course grades “C” or higher, no “I” (Incomplete), no “Pass/Fail” outside of Spring 2020 COVID exceptions.
  • Fulfill degree requirements as projected.
  • Satisfactory progress must be met on Foundations Portfolio Assessments.
  • Successfully complete at least three (3) Ti-BOT badges as part of the **Ti-BOT Licensure requirement (at the time of Milestone A review).
  • No unresolved Professional Dispositions (D2) issues/concerns.
  • Adhere to the Criminal Background Check Policy.
  • Attend the mandatory TEP Orientation hosted by the Office of Teacher Education and Licensure (OTEL). Students are encouraged to attend the TEP Orientation in their first semester of enrollment at Purdue University.
  • Submit the Teacher Education Program Agreement (TEPA).
  • Identify via the Teacher Education Program Agreement (TEPA) one of four chosen Learner Specialty Concentrations/Pathways. *Learner Specialty Concentration/Pathway requirements are specific to individual program majors.

Requirements for TEP Milestone B: Student Teaching/ Placement (Semester 5)

  • Achieve the Teacher Education Program Overall GPA requirement 2.5/4.0 (at time of Milestone A review) with Professional Education and Learner Specialty Concentration/Pathway course grades “C” or higher, no “I” (Incomplete), no “Pass/Fail” outside of Spring 2020 COVID exceptions.
  • Fulfill degree requirements as projected.
  • Be in good standing with the University (at time of Milestone B review).
  • Satisfactory progress met on Foundations Portfolio Assessments- including Common Lesson Plan.
  • Successfully complete at least five (5) total Ti-BOT badges as part of the **Ti-BOT Licensure requirement (at the time of Milestone B review).
  • Target met on Professional Dispositions Field Evaluation (Semester 5).
  • No unresolved Professional Disposition (D2) issues/concerns.
  • Attend the mandatory Student Teaching Clinical Acceptance Process (CAP) Workshop provided by the Office of Clinical Practice (OCP) AND submit your CAP Application as directed by OCP.
    • Expanded Student Teaching practic*ms and full-time Student Teaching occur over two consecutive semesters.
    • Verify from the CAP Application projected Student Teaching semester/year.

Requirements for TEP Milestone C: Student Teaching Authorization (Semester 7)

  • Achieve Teacher Education Program overall GPA requirement 2.5/4.0 (at time of Milestone C review) with Professional Education and Learner Specialty Concentration/Pathway course grades “C” or higher, no “I” (Incomplete), no “Pass/Fail” outside of Spring 2020 COVID exceptions.
  • Fulfill degree requirements as projected.
  • Be in good standing with the University (at time of Milestone C review).
  • Target met on completed Foundations Portfolio.
  • Successfully complete ten (10) total **Ti-BOT badges as part of the Ti-BOT Licensure requirement (at the time of Milestone C review).
  • Target met on Professional Dispositions Field Evaluation (Semester 7).
  • Successful completion of all Professional Education, *Learner Specialty Concentration/Pathway, and degree courses is required prior to Student Teaching (Semester Eight). Program limitations restrict additional courses to be taken simultaneously with or following student teaching without advance authorization.
  • Target met on Common Lesson Plan (Methods/Professional Course).
  • Attempt all required ETS Praxis content exam(s) before the Student Teaching semester. An official score report from ETS Praxis must be received by the Office of Teacher Education and Licensure prior to December 1 for Spring Student Teaching and July 1 for Fall Student Teaching. Students need to code Purdue University, West Lafayette (1631) as both the attending institution AND as a score recipient for ALL exam attempts.
  • Adhere to the Criminal Background Check Policy.

Requirements for TEP Milestone D: TEP Completion (Semester 8)

  • Achieve Teacher Education Program overall GPA requirement 2.5/4.0 (at time of Milestone D review) with Professional Education and Learner Specialty Concentration/Pathway course grades “C” or higher, no “I” (Incomplete), no “Pass/Fail” outside of Spring 2020 COVID exceptions.
  • Verify degree is conferred on Transcript/Academic Record.
  • Be in good standing with the University (at time of Milestone D review).
  • No unresolved Professional Dispositions (D2) issues/concerns.
  • Target met on edTPA and CPAST.

Requirements for TEP Milestone E: Licensure Eligible

  • Milestones A-D met.
  • Resolve any holds on academic records (if applicable).
  • Successfully complete the required ETS Praxis content exam(s) and pedagogy exam. An official score report from ETS Praxis must be received by the Office of Teacher Education and Licensure prior to licensure recommendation. Students need to code Purdue University, West Lafayette (1631) as both the attending institution AND as a score recipient for ALL exam attempts.
  • For all *Career and Technical Education (CTE) majors ONLY- Verify that the required number of clock hours has been completed and received by your advisor. Students must complete 4,000 clock hours of successful employment in the appropriate CTE area, or 1,500 clock hours of supervised work in the appropriate CTE area under an approved Teacher Education Program or an equivalent combination.

Requirements for TEP Milestone F: Licensure Action(s)

  • Milestones A-E met.
  • Complete and upload with your Indiana License Application CPR/Heimlich Maneuver/AED certification or card (must include a hands-on, face-to-face skills demonstration).
  • Complete and upload with your Indiana License Application documentation of Suicide Prevention certification (training must be at least one hour).
  • Submit Indiana License Application online via Licensing Verification and Information System (LVIS) at https://license.doe.in.gov/.
  • Allow one to three weeks (given all licensure criteria are met) for Purdue University to certify and the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) to grant the Indiana License.
  • After receipt of an Indiana License, apply for out-of-state licensure (if desired).
Licensure Information

The Office of Teacher Education and Licensure (OTEL) maintains a student’s licensure portfolio for life and can provide assistance throughout the duration of Purdue alumni’s professional teaching career. The OTEL team provides reliable, career-long guidance on Indiana teacher education and licensure standards, rules, and procedures. Indiana licensing rules and regulations are subject to change by the Indiana State Board of Education, the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE), and/or Indiana legislation.

*Specific TEP requirements and criteria are determined by individual program majors and students catalog admission year. Refer to individual program major requirements and criteria for further information/details.

**The Blended and Online Teaching (Ti-BOT) License is required for all Teacher Education Program majors and students on catalog admission year Fall 2024-Spring 2025.

Technology Integration- Blended and Online Teaching (Ti-BOT)

Technology Integration- Blended and Online Teaching (Ti-BOT) is a licensure program. Successful completion of the program results in an Indiana Instructional License in Blended and Online Teaching. The Blended and Online Teaching License will reflect the same grade range as the student’s Teacher Education Program and major.

The Blended and Online Teaching License requirements are embedded into coursework for all Teacher Education Undergraduate and Graduate Special Education majors with the exception of Early Childhood Education. The Ti-BOT program is a competency-based program. There are 10 competencies students are expected to master upon program completion. These competencies are derived from the Indiana Department of Education Blended and Online Teaching standards and aligned with the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards.
