Having a book journal or just reading pages in your Bullet Journal can be super beneficial. But It’s also something you can use to add more fun to your journal.

These pages might be the extra inspiration you need to use your journal more and be more creative.

But before we dive in, in case you’re not convinced yet, here are some reasons you definitely need to have a book journal!

Benefits Of Having A Reading Journal

It might seem like busy work rather than something actually useful. But you’d be wrong thinking that.

There are many benefits you can get from tracking your reading. here are just a few:

  • Stay on track with your reading goals. It’s easy to get busy with life and skip reading, but if you have a way to track it, it will help you stay accountable and read as much as you intended to.
  • Remember the books. I hope I’m not the only one, but often time after reading the book, I can’t remember anything about it. I need to google first and get a quick summary before I can tell for sure that I read it. A reading journal is kind of like that but on paper, but with an added possibility to add your own thought and emotions about the book on the page.
  • Learn from the books. Every book I read teaches me something or at least gives me some interesting things to consider. But if you don’t write it, it will likely be gone soon; it’s crazy how fast our brain moves on and forgets these things. A book journal can help you preserve that knowledge and ideas.
  • Always know what to read next. How many books have you get recommended? And how many of them do you actually remember to read once you’re done with the current one? If you don’t keep a list, my guess is zero is the answer to both these questions. But with a reading journal, you’ll have a perfect place to keep all those books organized and recorded.

Are you convinced yet to start a reading journal? I hope you are because it’s time to share reading journal page ideas.

And there is a free printable at the end of the post, so keep on scrolling!

Library Cost Savings

I know that avid readers are kind of like me with stationery; you just have to have that new book, just like I have to have that new set of Mildliners.

So how do you not spend all your money on books? By using libraries! This spread is an incredible motivation to switch to using libraries instead of buying every book in your local bookstore.

I'm incredibly impressed by the amount of money one can actually save if they use a library.

As far as I understand, this is kind of like a key Bullet Journal spread, but for your books. So you can decipher what those things you noted in your book are.

I've never actually done anything like that, but it seems like a fun and very useful way of reading.

Reading Challenges

When it comes to challenges, they can be a great motivation to keep on doing something and are fun to participate in, especially if you have a community doing it with you.

The same is true if it's a reading challenge, so why not make a spread like this and challenge yourself to read more?

Really fun monthly page idea with so much information on all the possible reading stats.

I really like that in the reading tracker on the right the creator added not just which day they read, but also how many pages.

Reading List

Technically this is more than just a reading list here, but I want to pay more attention to it rather than the monthly statistics. We'll have that as a separate idea next.

I really love the idea of printing and cutting out the mini versions of the book's cover pages for this spread.

Reading Statistics

This can be monthly statistics or weekly ones. In this example, they are statistics from her last 10 books.

I really love that the creator added the mood section. Whether it's the mood she was in when reading or the mood she got from reading the books, it's an interesting metric to have.

Supplies For Reading Journal

You can definitely use any supplies you have available. It all depends on what style you want to follow.

But in case you want some recommendations, here are some of my favorites:

  • Calliograph pens. They come in beautiful colors and have two brush tips, so you can use them for coloring and for creating different sizes of headers. (you can also get 10% off with my code MASHA10)
  • Fineliners. These are the blood of every Bullet Journal page, and I recommend getting these ones.
  • Kraft paper. I always find that it looks amazing on reading pages. You can use any you want, but I prefer using a kraft paper notepad that was it still has good paper and a dot grid. (you can also get 10% off with my code MASHA10)
  • Book stencil. An easier and definitely faster way to add book doodles to your Bullet Journal.
  • Letter stamps. I feel like it fits so well with all the book pages. And it will allow you to have many fun and unique headers.
