Whether you crave something sweet in the morning, or you just want ice cream, this healthy cookies and cream smoothie bowl is for you!
This bowl is a mix of creamy bananas, cacao nibs and chocolate chips that replicate the texture and flavors of classic cookies and cream ice cream. But like WAY healthier obviously!
Not only that, but this banana smoothie bowl takes less than 10 minutes to make! Just make sure to freeze your bananas the night before 😉
Bananas: Make sure to freeze your bananas at least 36 hours ahead of time. Additionally, only freeze super ripe bananas, as these will yield the best creamy texture and will naturally sweeten the smoothie bowl.
Cashew milk: or use any plant milk you have on hand.
Vanilla protein powder: while this is optional, i love adding in protein powder for added protein (duh) and to make this a balanced breakfast.
Cacao nibs and Chocolate chips: both add a nice crunch and replicate the texture of oreo cookies. I like using Hu Gems (use my code MUNCHING for 15% off).
Vanilla extract and Salt: Don’t skip these! Trust.
Tips for Super Thick Smoothie Bowls
Pencils out because I’m about to drop the deets on how to make extra thick smoothie bowls!
Frozen ingredients: Rule of thumb is that all fruits should be frozen, and any other ingredients (such as cocoa powder, milk etc.) should be cold or at least room temp. This will ensure that your nice cream stays nice and thick, and doesn’t immediately start melting!
Plant milk: When it comes to making super thick smoothie bowls, the less liquid, the better. Which is why I always recommend starting off with only ½ cup of plant milk and adding in a tiny bit as needed.
Creaminess: You know how those nice cream bowls on Instagram and TikTok look so creamy and silky. The secret is fats, protein powder and super ripe bananas. While you don’t need to add in all three, I would say that at least add in protein powder and of course the bananas to get the best silky texture.
Be patient: Whenever I make smoothie bowls, I typically stop the blender around 3 times to scrape down the sides, pop air bubbles, add a dash of milk if needed etc. Whether you’re using a high-powered Vitamix or a Magic Bullet, you will need to stop the blender occasionally.
Is This Cookies and Cream Smoothie Bowl Even Healthy?
I’m going to make this quick, yes it’s healthy!
But to go a little deeper, this smoothie bowl is the perfect balanced breakfast.
The bananas provide healthy carbs, minerals and vitamins.
Cacao nibs and chocolate chips add in healthy fats as well as tons of antioxidants which are super important for brain function.
Lastly, the protein powder adds a little boost of, well protein duh. And we all know that protein is super important for satiety and muscle recovery!

Cookies and Cream Smoothie Bowl

This bowl is a mix of creamy bananas, cacao nibs and chocolate chips that replicate the texture and flavors of classic cookies and cream ice cream. But like WAY healthier obviously!
Ingredients
Scale
3 frozen Bananas
½ cup Cashew milk
1 scoop Vanilla protein powder
2 tsp Vanilla extract
⅛ tsp Pink Himalayan Salt
3 tbsp Cacao nibs OR Chocolate chips ((I like using Hu chocolate chips since they're sweetened with date sugar. Use code MUNCHING for 15% OFF. ))
Instructions
Begin by adding the bananas, cashew milk, vanilla protein powder, salt and vanilla into a blender. Start the blender on low, ramping up the speed to medium. Use a tamper for this as it will help the mixture blend evenly and pop any air pockets. If you need to, add additional milk to get the blender running.
Once smoothie is halfway blended, add in the cacao nibs/chocolate chips and continue to blend until the smoothie bowl is thick, super creamy and well blended. One tip to know if the smoothie is blended enough, is that the color will change from a yellow banana color, to an off-white color.
Pop the smoothie into a bowl, top with sunflower butter, more cacao nibs and enjoy.
While it can easily stand on its own, cookies and cream pairs well with fruit too. The bright tartness of berries (strawberry, raspberry), tropical fruit (mango, coconut), and stone fruit (peach, cherry) contrast nicely with the creamy sweetness of cookies and cream flavor.
No ice: If you don't have ice, you can use frozen fruit, oats, chia seeds, yogurt, or nuts and nut butter to thicken your smoothie. No frozen fruit: Add a scoop of raw oats or chia seeds into the blender instead. No yogurt: You can swap yogurt with nut butter to thicken a smoothie.
On gelling: If your smoothie is gelling, perhaps you added chia or flax seeds too far in advance. Blueberries, which are very high in natural pectin, are also a culprit of jelly-like smoothies. A re-blend with a little bit of ice and some creamy liquid (if appropriate for the flavor profiles) will likely do the trick.
Layering foods properly helps your blender thoroughly emulsify everything so you get a more cohesive, undeniably smooth smoothie. Basically, you want the liquids on the bottom, to create the vortex that pulls solids down into the blade, and the heavy stuff higher up to push everything down.
The Fix: Take your time. Smoothies are quick, but that doesn't mean blending for three seconds is going to cut it. You want to blend everything really well so that your smoothie is lump-free. Aim for one to two minutes with a regular blender, or one minute if you're using a Vitamix.
Cookies and cream ice cream generally mixes crumbled chocolate sandwich cookies into vanilla ice cream, though variations exist which might instead use chocolate, coffee or mint ice cream.
Other crowd-pleasers are strawberry (43%) and cookies and cream (43%), chosen as favorites by 6% and 7%, respectively. Mint chocolate chip and butter pecan challenge vanilla and chocolate for favorite flavor (9% and 8%, respectively) even though neither is liked by more than 35% of Americans.
Start your smoothie with two mugfuls of a liquid base. This can be milk, or a dairy-free alternative such as soya or almond milk, natural or flavoured yogurt, fruit juice, or for a tropical flavoured smoothie, low-fat coconut milk or coconut water.
If you're looking for a thicker consistency, then I would suggest adding less milk. If you want a more drinkable smoothie, then add more milk until you reach your desired consistency.
Use flavored yogurt or milk: Another easy way to make your smoothie taste sweeter is by using flavored yogurt or milk instead of plain varieties. Vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate are all great options that will take your smoothie up a notch in the flavor department.
Frozen, rather than fresh fruit makes a big difference when making a smoothie. Bananas and avocados work best to make a smoothie super thick and creamy with any flavor and work well in non-fruit smoothies, like this Chocolate Avocado Smoothie or Peanut Butter Smoothie.
Frozen fruit can thicken a smoothie and provide natural sweetness, so it's a win-win. Plus, it's an easy ingredient to always have on hand in your freezer.
Typically you would add ice to a smoothie, but if your fruit is pre-frozen, it is unnecessary to use ice. Adding fruit juice is a good option, but remember to be aware of the sugar content of any fruit juice you are adding to your smoothie. 3. Add some green.
Whether you're using water, milk, or juice, always add the liquid ingredients to the blender jar first. This helps the blender blades move more easily through the rest of your ingredients.
With strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and peaches combined with lemon juice and a touch of sugar, then topped with a luscious whipped cream, you have a real summer winner on your hands!
Best fresh fruits: strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. Canned fruit: apricots, peaches, pineapple. But I love whole hazelnuts and almonds on my chocolate ice cream!
White chocolate's rich, sweet and creamy taste pairs well with fruits that have acidity, such as citrus, and tang, such as berries. It also plays nicely with very sweet fruits such as melons and peaches. Dark chocolate, known for its bitter bite, helps neutralize very sweet fruits such as bananas.
