Love it or loathe it, Valentine’s Day is here. I’m firmly on the side of ‘loving’ the day which encourages a celebration of passion. After all, what’s not to love about love?
Money racket, money schracket . February 14 is more of an excuse to celebrate — whether that’s celebrating your relationship, a friendship, or just yourself. With so much doom every time you switch on your phone or open your paper, it’s important to make the most out of every situation — and Valentine’s Day is no exception.

Whether that’s a Galentine’s night out with the girls, or a night in with bae — or even just a night in solo doing a spot of self-care and watching your favourite TV show or movie? Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse for livening up a midweek.
So what’s Galentine’s Day, you might ask? It’s a global holiday that celebrates women’s friendship. And to be honest, we don’t do enough celebrating, especially in February. While the official day might be the day before Valentine’s Day (February 13), it’s something of a movable feast and many of us will spend Wednesday evening celebrating our female friendships.
But what about the cost, you say? Why should we have to pay to show our love on a particular day that merely rewards spending money? Well, no, that’s one thing I am not buying. Your Valentine’s celebration could be as simple as sitting down for dinner with your other half. You need to eat anyway, so this doesn’t need to cost anything extra. You could even boujee it up, and keep it low-budget, by dimming the lights and lighting a candle or two.
In the hustle and bustle of life, Valentine’s Day is the opportunity to take a step back and share your appreciation for those in your life you are grateful for.
A constant refrain of Valentine’s Day naysayers is that people should show their love and appreciation to one another every day, and not just because of a certain date But you can eat pancakes whenever you want, it doesn’t stop you making a point of having a couple on Pancake Tuesday, does it?
Love — it’s all we need.
